5 tips to Roll a Better Joint

Every cannabis smoker has a stash of supplies to roll joints.  Usually its a small kit that includes your herb, a grinder, lighter, papers and crutches.  Here are some tips to stock your joint rolling kit and to take your joints to the next level:

1. Use good rolling papers
No Whack wrappers! Rolling papers greatly impact the flavor of your joints. There are three types of rolling paper materials: Wood Pulp, Hemp and Rice fibers.  Check out our blog on rolling papers to make the right choice for you as they each have unique characteristics that affect the way your joint rolls and smokes.

2. Roll a crutch/filter
A crutch is clutch! A crutch or filter can be made for your joint by tightly rolling a tip, and makes sure you can smoke all your flower without a soggy end and burnt fingers (gross!).  You can buy crutch papers, or make your own, but its very expensive to buy a pack and have in your kit.

3. Use a Grinder
A good grinder guarantees consistency in the way the joint burns, but also increases potency from the complete ignition of smaller cannabis grounds. Fumbling hands make for poor consistency in texture and burning plus lost kiefRead our blog on selecting the best grinder for you.

4. Twax on
Twaxing is a hugely popular trend in cannabis smoking. As defined by the originator, @WA5280, to twax is “to apply hash/concentrates to the inside, outside, or tip of your rolls/bowls in any way shape or form.” An easy way to twax, if you have a weed grinder with a Kief catcher, is to sprinkle the kief on top of your cannabis before rolling.  However, you can also add concentrates such as butter, hash, or shatter as well as rosin.

5. Roll from the back
Hold on to the crutch... Rolling will make or break the quality of your joint. Start  rolling with the crutch side because it can help guide the paper as it rolls around itself, and the crutch makes an easy handle. Tuck the unglued side of the paper into the roll then use the glue edge to tack down the paper by licking or using just a little bit of moisture. Once the paper is tacked on the crutch end, you can work your way down the rest of the seam by tucking and sealing the joint.  Make sure its smooth and filled consistently before twisting the end opposite to the crutch.
