5 tips to Roll a Better Joint

Image
Every cannabis smoker has a stash of supplies to roll joints.  Usually its a small kit that includes your herb, a grinder , lighter, papers and crutches.  Here are some tips to stock your joint rolling kit and to take your joints to the next level: 1. Use good rolling papers No Whack wrappers! Rolling papers greatly impact the flavor of your joints. There are three types of rolling paper materials: Wood Pulp, Hemp and Rice fibers.  Check out our blog on rolling papers to make the right choice for you as they each have unique characteristics that affect the way your joint rolls and smokes. 2. Roll a crutch/filter A crutch is clutch! A crutch or filter can be made for your joint by tightly rolling a tip, and makes sure you can smoke all your flower without a soggy end and burnt fingers (gross!).  You can buy crutch papers, or make your own, but its very expensive to buy a pack and have in your kit. 3. Use a Grinder A good grinder guarantees consistency in the way the

7 Reasons YOU should grow Cannabis

Image
So you're considering Home Cultivation but other than curiosity what are the reasons why you should try... Well here are 7 reasons you absolutely should regardless of how green your thumb is: 1.  It's Legal. As well, many states in the USA have provisions to allow the cultivation of plants for personal use. 2.  It's fun.  Growing Cannabis is a hobby, and you will enjoy it.  Watching your baby girls grow is fun and entertaining.  I find myself obsessed with their growth and success. 3. It's educational.   Many people have enjoyed cannabis for years but have no knowledge of how it really grows and produces.  If anything you will walk away with an appreciation of the plants that you have enjoyed the products of for years.  You can explore the strains and types, experiment with different grow set ups... the possibilities are endles

Kief: What is it, why you want it, how to get it...

Image
Kief, keef or keif is formed from dried resin producing glands (called trichomes) on the leaves of cannabis plants. It looks like a fine brown powder when collected. Kief is also called crystal or pollen at times because of its appearance. Kief is one of the most sought after cannabis products because it contains a high concentration of THC, the drug that causes euphoric feelings or the notorious marijuana high. This is where it derives its name; the word `kif` is taken from the Arabic word `kayf`meaning well-being or pleasure. Kief is collected with a few methods.  If you have grown and dried cannabis, then it can be collected by rubbing leaves over stainless steel mesh screens or by shaking the branches and holding something under the plant. Larger operations have a special machines designed for processing larger amounts of leaves where they tumble against a rotating silk drum and glands fall off to be collected. The most common way to collect small amount of kief is using a wee

Weed Grinders: Why you need one

Image
What is a weed grinder? As the name might indicate, its small device that shreds or chops up cannabis efficiently into consistent smooth pieces. There are 2 main types of grinders that perform the same task: manual and electric. Whether hand or motor powered, weed grinders make life easier for the user. Weed grinders save sweaty, clumsy and fumbling hands from the smell of flower, and do a far better and faster job than anyone could without one. Weed grinders will, also, make your tokes more potent and taste better. The fine consistency a good grinder produces increases overall surface area of the weed that is in contact on ignition producing more flavor and potency. By producing more potent hits and by preventing lost flower and holding the grounds, a great grinder should also save money in the long run.  Beyond all these benefits, one more exists that is by far the most coveted of all cannabis lovers: kief. The best grinders will shred cannabis into a fine consistency,

Ash Catchers: Got Ash? We’ll catch that.

Image
You have the perfect bong but you hate cleaning it, so how can you easily preserve it and make it last as long as possible, as well as get the cleanest tokes possible? The answer is an Ash Catcher. An ash catcher is a bong attachment that, as the name indicates, traps dirt, debris, ash and resin before entering your bong. An ash catcher adds another layer of filtration that will significantly reduce the need to clean your bong (although not eliminate your bong cleaning duties), and generate cleaner, cooler smoke to enjoy. There are 3 main types of ash catchers: Plain, Diffusers and Percolators.   All have bowl or a female joint to connect to a bowl, a chamber and a joint to connect to your bong. Plain Ash Catchers: Plain ash catchers which send your smoke through a chamber which may or may not include water before entering your bong.   Ash catchers with water in the chamber will cool and clean the smoke more effectively (read here to learn more), but either way the ash c

Bowls: set your piece apart

Image
One of the unparalleled advantages of a full size water pipe is the ability to customize them with removable glass parts like a bowl, or ash catcher.  Every water pipe needs a bowl to properly function.  Glass bowls are packed with cannabis and then, hold them for ignition.  Bowls range from standard, to decorative and are vary in function, color and shape.  A wide selection of bowls are sold separately so if your friend clumsily drops yours, or if you wish to upgrade the one that came with your piece, it’s easy to find a new one. The most important feature of a bowl is that it fits your desired piece.  Bowls come in both female and male gender, as well as, 14mm and 18mm in size.  If your water pipe has a 18mm female joint, you will require a 18mm bowl that is male, for instance. The quality and design of bowls varies significantly.  The first feature to note is the hole or holes in a bowl.  A bowl may have one singular hole or several, and the size of the holes is impo

The Basics of Rolling Papers

Image
The basics of rolling papers are as simple as 1, 2, or 3: wood fiber, hemp or rice paper. When it comes to materials that make rolling papers there is no superior kind, it comes down to personal preference and often the experience the smoker is seeking.   Some of the factors to consider for type of rolling paper are environmental impact, ease of rolling, taste, and burn rate. Wood pulp papers are the most common and traditional, and the same type of paper used for cigarettes or even notepads.   Wood pulp papers are the least environmental or renewable, and can be bleached or natural brown fiber. Wood pulp burn fast and dirty which adds abundance of ash to the smoke; therefore, the taste (and aftertaste) is the most noticeable and undesirable in comparison to the other materials. The ash is increased with the processing of the paper (white bleached papers have more of a noticeable flavor than natural brown). Wood pulp papers are therefore the least healthy from a personal health

One Hitter Pipes: Hit me baby one more time.

Image
A One Hitter aka a bat or chillum, is a small pipe and as the name suggests it only holds a small amount of cannabis; enough for one hit.   One Hitters are the most discrete of all accessories, and can be packed and carried easily. One Hitters are simple in construction, like pipes , and are made of various materials, mainly ceramic, metal or glass.   Chillums are shaped as a straight tube much like a cigarette or small cigar. On one end of the chillum is the bowl, and on the opposing end is the mouthpiece.   Some One Hitters are designed to mimic a cigarette, while others have the ornate designs of blown glass like full pipes.                          One Hitters are small and compact in size, making them incredibly discrete. Perfect for a low key hit, the bat delivers a quick toke without a continuous stream of smoke like that produced from a joint.   Furthermore, unlike the traditional pipe , the bowl of a bat is not obvious in shape, and so lighting it mimics the same motion a

Bubblers: The hybrid of the glass world

Image
A bubbler, aka bubbler pipe or mini-bong, is a hybrid between a pipe and a bong (click on the following links read more about pipes and bongs on our blog).   A bubbler is small, and therefore gives the portability of a pipe; however, it has a water chamber which produces limited cooling and filtering qualities of a water pipe or bong.   Water filtered and cooled hits often come at the cost of carrying a larger water pipe, but the bubbler offers a functional option that is more discrete and space-conscious. The bubbler offers smoother, softer hits than a pipe without lugging around a larger water pipe. Bubblers feature a mouthpiece, a bowl (can be removable or not), and some have a carb hole not unlike a pipe; however, in a bubbler the stem is built around the bowl and delivers smoke to a small amount of water which then filters and cools it (read more about the science of water filtration in our water pipe post ). To use a bubbler fill the small chamber with cold water an

A guide to Pipes: A novice to expert favorite

Image
Pipes are a favorite among many marijuana smokers because of their portability and simplicity.  They offer a cleaner smoke than a joint or blunt (not as clean as a bong or bubbler) , and are small enough to take anywhere discreetly.  Pipes are popular as they regarded as the easiest, most basic way to smoke marijuana. Pipes, also, lend themselves to beginners or those who do not like to get overly high, as they offer smaller tokes and are less assuming and intimidating. The pipe is only one piece, with a bowl at one end to load the cannabis and a larger hole to place your mouth and inhale on the other.  The pipe usually has a small hole called a carb or choke which is used to allow air flow.   A carb allows the chamber to be cleared while smoking from the pipe.  Hold your thumb over the carb while taking a toke or  inhaling then  release to allow fresh air to fill the pipe chamber, clearing the desirable smoke. Note that not all pipes have a carb, and so if you prefer one, make

The Science and Sensations of Water Pipes

Image
Cannabis lovers know there is a limitless variety of sensations and flavors that can be experienced. So why should you try a water pipe, aka bong? The simple answer is it produces a unique experience that is smoother, cooler, easier toke than smoking. Many bong users love that it is easier to pack then fill with water, and does not require rolling a joint which can be time consuming and leave your hands smelling.  The odor of smoke from a water pipe is lessened and therefore its more discrete as well. The bong also allows users to get the most out of their cannabis, as one can milk tokes and burn it more efficiently. To understand the full benefit of using a water pipe or bong, you must understand a bit of the chemistry of smoking cannabis.  Burning cannabis produces smoke which contains desirable chemicals such as THC, CBD and other cannabinoids but also nasty by-products such as tar and particulate ash.  When using a bong or water pipe the smoke is bubbled through the water which
