10 Things to do if You Have Had Too Much Cannabis

Cannabis is wonderful in the right dose, but too much can amplify your anxiety, bring on paranoia, and cause an all out freak out. The good news is, it’s mostly in your mind: there has been no report of death from a cannabis overdose. Cannabis will not permanently damage your liver, kidneys, or even your brain, and though taking too much can temporarily kick up your heart rate, the worst it will do is make you feel extra nervous. That being said, your mind can be a scary place. Once THC gets into your system, there is not much to do other than wait it out, which can make for an uncomfortable experience. So what do you do when you’ve accidentally smoked or ingested too much cannabis? Here are 10 tips to help you through it:

  • Breath in or chew black pepper
Sounds gross, but many swear by it! Just sniff or chew on a few black peppercorns and it should provide almost instantaneous relief.
  • Go outside, get some fresh air
If you can’t turn your brain off, sometimes a change of scenery and some fresh air to get your blood pumping will help invigorate you. Just remember to stay close to your immediate surroundings–don’t wander off and getting lost while you’re feeling anxious and paranoid!  If you feel light headed, maybe skip this option.
  • Take a shower or bath
Nothing better than a shower to bath or relax.
  • Watch a funny cartoon
Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead and Family Guy to the rescue!
  • Listen to your favorite album
Chill out and listen to some tunes.
  • Play a fun video game
Turn on the system and direct your efforts to beating the next round.
  • Talk to your friends (who are hopefully right by your side, reassuring you)
Let your friends distract you with light conversation and attention.
  • Snuggle with your significant other
Everything is better with your favorite person near by and wrapped around you.
  • Try coloring as a calming activity (seriously, adult coloring books are becoming all the rage lately)
Focus on something creative and fun, and try to stay between the lines as an extra challenge.
  • Drink water and eat something delicious
WATER, WATER, WATER–don’t forget to hydrate! Whether you prefer water or juice, make sure you have a nice, cold beverage on hand. This will help combat dry mouth and allow you to focus on the simple act of sipping and swallowing. If you’re feeling the effects of your strain a little too aggressively, stay away from alcohol.
Some people find that a light snack helps them feel a little more grounded. Consider grazing on some yummy snacks like fruits, nuts, or cheese, and see if it’s a little easier to connect mind and body.
